Mrs. Tapp
Welcome to kindergarten!! My name is Laura Tapp. I am thrilled to be a part of your child's journey this year! I was born and raised in Michigan. I am a graduate of Michigan State University and Wayne State University. I hold a Masters Degree in Teaching and although it's hard for me to believe, I am beginning my 23rd year of teaching. While living in Michigan, I taught kindergarten through 3rd grade. We moved to Anthem in 2007 where I taught kindergarten and 2nd grade at Anthem School. I have spent my years at Gavilan Peak teaching Kindergarten,1st grade, 2nd grade, and a 1st/2nd grade multi-age class. I have an endorsement in Gifted Education, Early Childhood Education, and Structured English Immersion. I love being a Firebird and continue to be amazed at all of the support from our families.
Family is everything to me. I live at home with my husband. We have two sons, Brendan and Kyle. Brendan recenty graduated from The University of Arizona and is headed back to school to become a Physician Assistant. Kyle is a junior at Arizona State University. We also have two labradoodles, Kona and Maui. Yes, we love Hawaii! My husband is a retired officer in the United States Coast Guard and now lives and works here in Arizona. I am so lucky to have my parents and siblings also living nearby. Anthem has been a wonderful place to raise our family and we spend most of our time outside of work with our family and friends.
I am truly committed to making this year a fun and memorable experience for each and every child in our classroom! We will experience a year of engaging activities and grow both academically and socially together. We will spend this year laying the foundation of learning for your child's future success in school and in life. Your child will learn and be engaged in a variety of experiences that align with the adopted standards. I look forward to an amazing school year and seeing each child become successful and develop their own love of learning! Please come to me with any concerns or questions you may have throughout the year.
Thank you for your support and sharing your child with me. We're going to have an amazing year together!!

Behavior Management Plan
Our individual kindergarten behavior plan is quite simple. My focus is on creating positive choices in our classroom and becoming the best we can be. My students will earn Golden Tickets for good behavior, great choices, a positive attitude, kind words, participation, etc… to be used towards Fun Friday centers every week.
Students will learn very quickly that earning Golden Tickets has its rewards. Students are motivated to earn as many they can. I have found it becomes less about Fun Friday and more about becoming the best citizen that they can be. Students will strive to earn more than they did the previous week.
On the other hand, if your child is struggling with certain behaviors, such as following directions, shouting out, being unkind, etc.., tickets can be lost and I will contact you.
I appreciate your support this year as we begin our journey through Kindergarten. We are going to have an amazing year!
